Information about western Cyprus
Western Cyprus
offers an amazing diversity of scenery and wildlife because of its geographical
position. Couple this with a wide range of all-year-round activities and it's
not surprising that this island is such a popular destination with holiday
makers from around the world.
The calm, clear warm waters of the Mediterranean
Sea are perfect for all types of water based activity. No matter which coastal
resort you visit you're spoilt for choice and it’s all here waiting - just for
you!
The dramatic natural and beautiful landscape of
the Akamas Peninsular offers a diverse selection of wildlife, migratory birds
and flora. Visiting the turtle information centre at Lara Bay is a worthwhile
and rewarding experience. Explore the area on foot or on bike using the numerous
trails in this famous National Park.
During the heat of the summer, wise locals escape
to the relative cool of the Troodos mountains. Here, set amongst the pine and
cedar clad slopes, you will find small villages and several monasteries that are
well worth visiting. Roads on the major routes through this area are very good,
and a saloon car will encounter no problems.
Mount
Olympus is the highest point in Cyprus at a height of 2000 metres. During the
winter months you can ski as well as taking advantage of the stunning views and
warm friendly local hospitality.
Spring offers dry, mild sunny days and at this
time of year magnificent displays of cherry and almond blossom transform the
landscape. There are miles of walking trails that guide you through villages
with tiny churches.
Traditional crafts are still a part of village
life away from the busy tourist areas. Similarly if mountain biking is your
thing, then there are trails that will take you through cool and fragrant pine
forests, reservoirs, mountain streams and old stone bridges.
There is so much to say about Cyprus, its night
life, its restaurants, its people, its climate, it just can't all be said here
and needs to be experienced first hand. It's best you come and see for yourself!
Cyprus boasts 340 days of sunshine a year, a low
crime rate, driving on the left and as English is widely spoken, it is an
obvious destination for the UK traveller.
